People don’t fail because they don’t have enough information. They fail because information without focus, execution, and systems leads nowhere.
Information is not the problem anymore. You are not struggling because you lack information; you are struggling because you can’t turn information into results.
As someone who has created up to 100 ( 97 ) web companies and almost didn’t succeed with all of them, quit three IT jobs, and has been in the internet space since 2009 as a web developer and programmer. I think it’s enough time for me to discover exactly where my problem is coming from.
Finally, I did that, and I can assure you that if you stick with me till the end of this video, you will eventually believe with me on this simple and powerful concept I deduced out of my experience for years, and it will be of tremendous benefit to you.
My problem for years simply emanated from the concept of INFORMATION over FOCUS instead of FOCUS over INFORMATION. And you may be wondering to yourself, how come I was unable to discover this simple concept and correct it on time?
Well, that same problem is what 90% of the world is facing now, including you. Then, why can’t you solve it by now? The issue is that INFORMATION is not your problem anymore; your problem is how to turn the information gathered into results.
And here are five major problems that made it impossible for us to transform the vast amount of information within us into results. These will be the basis of our discussion today.
a) Information Overload.
b) Lack of Focus.
c) Lack of Execution.
d) Lack of Systems.
e) Attention Hijacking.
We will discuss them one by one and provide solutions on how to navigate past them. Then, let’s start.
INFORMATION OVERLOAD:-
What is information overload? In my own terms, I see it as when people are surrounded by endless information to the extent that they don’t know which one to follow or select.
As a victim of this particular problem, I went on collecting more information instead of executing, thinking that the next one would be the best answer to my problems. With that, I was caught up in an endless loop of gathering more without actually creating.
And what happened to me can be likened to these issues stated:
- I consumed more than I created.
- I felt overwhelmed.
- I kept switching between ideas.
- I never for once felt “ready.”
So, for you not to be consumed like I was before, here is exactly what you have to do, most especially in this AI era.
You have to start now to learn how to consume less and apply more.
Choose one trusted source, learn only what you need for your current goal, then stop consuming and start implementing. Let’s get down to the second problem.
LACK OF FOCUS:
Using myself as a typical example, which I always like to do because experience is the best teacher. Not that I don’t know what to do during those days of my information overload. The issue was that I couldn’t stay focused on one thing long enough to make meaningful progress.
The reason is that I flooded myself with so much information that the next one seems like the solution to my problems, and this kept me on an unending loop of indecision, which kept me on a whirlwind. And such can be more devastating in this AI period.
And imagine how long it took me to finally focus. I started focusing in early 2024. Someone who started the internet journey since 2009. Such a milestone of confusion is time-wasting and devastating, which you could avoid now by making use of information that matters while focusing.
Let’s briefly look at what happens to you when you lack focus.
- You will be embraced with constant distractions.
- You will think that multitasking is a better solution.
- This is what killed me most. You will definitely embark on starting many projects. And it seems there is an illusion that keeps telling you to continue even when you are getting overwhelmed.
- You will end up finishing very few. In my own case, I was able to succeed with only 3 projects out of 97 projects so far. What a poor output.
Now, let’s examine how we can be able to solve this problem of LACK OF FOCUS. You have to debunk the idea of gathering more and more information (information overload). Try to focus on one priority. How can I do this? You can do this when you stop consuming more information and start working on a single important task at a time, eliminating distractions, and dedicating uninterrupted time to it every day.
LACK OF EXECUTION:
When you gather more information than you need at the moment, you will definitely lack focus, and when focus is lost, execution becomes a problem.
I did not experience this particular problem during my time-wasting journey. I was executing but not really focusing. So, in this aspect now, you can be executing while lacking focus. Because that execution spirit is coming from the zeal you have to succeed, but the issue is that you are killing yourself with more and more information that leaches your focus ability.
You see! People always mistake learning for progress. They spend hours watching videos and reading articles, but rarely take action. Are you one of them? If you are, I know you must have experienced issues such as:
- Endless planning.
- Buying courses without using them.
- Watching tutorials instead of building.
- Fear of starting.
If your experience is as stipulated here. This is the workover you needed to avert this particular problem. You have to take immediate action. Look at it this way: turn every piece of information into one small, actionable step. Don’t wait until you feel “ready.” The next video will be on Anthony Trollope’s high productivity method. LACK OF SYSTEMS:
If you gather more information than you need, it lacks focus, and execution is not in your dictionary at all. How can you build a system that will follow a particular process and help you achieve what you want?
Before we continue, I would like to give you a brief explanation of what I mean by systems. In my own definition, a system is a repeatable routine.
The problem with us here is that we rely on motivation instead of a repeatable routine. Not having in mind that motivation fades with time. And what keeps us coming is the repeatable routine built under discipline.
And these are what you are likely to face when you rely on motivation instead of a repeatable routine.
- Your habits will become Inconsistent.
- You will definitely get burnout.
- Inability to make a decision (Decision fatigue).
- You will think that starting over every week is crucial.
Then, to avoid this, look at what to do:
Build repeatable routines. Create simple workflows and habits that guide your work, so you don’t have to rely on motivation or make the same decisions every day. Remember, what drives them to win all the time is not motivation, it is discipline. Because motivation fades with time, discipline keeps you following the system you built for yourself.
Let’s get to the last but not least of them all.
ATTENTION HIJACKING:
AI is not a problem; the way we use it becomes the major problem. You can testify with me that a whole lot of individuals are perceiving AI as a means to get rich quickly, not even a tool that gives you the means to succeed. This is because AI is a trend now.
The reason being that all these AI companies are trying to capture every one of us attentions. And they are doing it in a dramatic way that even the lowest of lows in our slums today can easily pronounce AI without even giving the full meaning of it.
Then, what do you think is going to happen to the mind of such an individual? The mind is already hijacked with a negative understanding of what AI is all about. That is the problem of information overload. When you are overloaded with something, it becomes abusive because an excess of everything is bad.
Every app, platform, and notification competes for people’s attention nowadays. So our ability to focus is constantly being interrupted.
And these are what normally happen to us when our attentions are hijacked.
- We end up in doomscrolling.
- Constant phone checking.
- Short attention spans.
- Reduced productivity.
Solving this particular problem is simple; just follow what I’m about to tell you now. Protect your attention. And how can we do that? We can do just that by turning off unnecessary notifications, limiting our social media consumption, and designing an environment that makes it easy to focus and hard to get distracted.
Let’s not get confused. And in order not to get confused, here is the big picture. These five problems fit together like this:
Unlimited Information -> Information Overload -> Lost Focus -> Poor Execution -> No Results -> Search for More Information -> The Cycle Repeats.
So remember this: “The solution is not more information, it is learning less, focusing more, executing consistently, building systems, and protecting your attention.”
